Following our joint convening of the high-level “From Fish Deficit to Aquaculture Powerhouse” forum in Kisumu earlier this year, The Aquaculture & Blue Economy Consortium (TAC) and Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) OFFICIAL have now taken another important step towards strengthening collaboration in Kenya’s aquaculture and blue economy sectors.
On the sidelines of the Our Ocean Conference, we formalized our partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, led by TAC CEO Felix Osok & Director General KMFRI PAUL ORINA; that will guide collaboration across a number of strategic areas, including research and innovation, capacity development, knowledge exchange, investment readiness, sustainable aquaculture development and ecosystem strengthening.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to addressing fragmentation within the sector and building stronger linkages between research, industry, investors, policymakers and local communities.
While much work remains ahead, we are encouraged by the opportunities that emerge when institutions move beyond conversations and begin implementing practical solutions together.
We look forward to working closely with KMFRI and other partners to unlock the full potential of Kenya’s blue economy and contribute to a more productive, resilient, and sustainable aquaculture sector.
